Galatians 5:19-21:
The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
When I was growing up into adulthood, it seemed like so much emphasis was put on avoiding drinking, smoking, drugs, and sex. And yet, when Paul talks about obvious sinful acts he doesn't really talk about any of these. Sure he talks about sexual immorality and orgies, but, not to go about splitting hairs, he could have said premarital sex and he didn't. And he did say drunkenness but not drinking.
The real point here is that the things he cites are more about destructive behavior instead of "the big 4". Living a good, fruitful life isn't about avoiding things; it's about choosing positive things. It's not about avoiding junk food; it's about eating healthy food. It's not about avoiding sex; it's about having a healthy relationship in all it's aspects. It's not about avoiding booze; it's about making responsible decisions.
A good life is about what you do - not what you don't do. Don't live shunning the bad; live it seeking out the good.
